the backyard is nothing but dirt and ginormous holes.

everything can be made scientific.
everything can be made artistic.
order can be found in everything,
and in those same things,
awful confusion.

i find this
simultaneously
beautiful and frightening.

now i can get on with it.

"But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus."
- Romans 2: 21-24

i finally believe this, right down to the very core of my being.
it feels amazing.

RIP MJ.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9iPWeu33s34

this song really makes me tear up - and no, not because Free Willy was such a touching film.
i've always wondered if this song was a cry from Michael Jackson - the real, confused and damaged person that was hidden beneath the superstar facade.
that's what i hear. a sincere call for something real and stable. i don't know what he believed about God, but i would have to say that this song is a clear indication that he needed and wanted Him whether he acknowledged it or not.

try to get past the initial weirdness of some parts of this video and see if you hear the same cry. maybe it's just me.

carousels...

and if i didn't have You as my guide, i'd still be wandering, lost in Sinai
or down by the tracks watching trains go by to remind me: there are places that aren't here.
i had a well but all the water left,
so i'll ask Your forgiveness with every breath.
if there was no way into God,
oh i would never have laid in this grave of a body for so long.

now go listen to mewithoutYou.

thanks, God, for unconditional love.

tears stream down your face,
when you lose something you cannot replace.
oh and the tears stream down your face,
and I...

tears stream down your face,
I promise you I will learn from my mistakes
oh when the tears stream down your face
and I...

lights will guide you home
and ignite your bones,
and I will try

to fix you.

soisuckatkeepingablog...

it would be just great if those high-falutin' office workers were let in on the little secret that landscapers are human too. i mean, what's your deal? thanks to us, the crappy landscape outside your cubicle window looks good. heck, we might even put flowers in for you to look at while you pretend to type up your TPS reports.
i promise that if you acknowledge me when i say hello, i won't throw dirt in your face.

*phew* i'm glad that's off my chest.

recommendation.

if you've never listened to A Northern Chorus, do it. asap.

this month is one year anniversary of the band's break-up. i was quite broken hearted last May...
but. they left behind an amazing legacy of timeless, epic music that we can enjoy forever.
so go do that! now!

i shall leave you with the lyrics from one of my favourite ANC songs, Costa Del Sol.

Please direct your eyes to the trembling skies
And catch every glimpse in all your words and all your conjured chords.
As sure as bitter hands resign, the past will be seen in new light,
Cast upon old words that you thought you'd lost in the fire.
And in this flood these old roads don't stand a chance,
So breathe it in, and bask in the raging water.
Don't let hindsight drive you mad, sure enough it can;
Just hold the past up in clear view and catch every glimpse at once.

some ponderings as of late.

I've been thinking about my Grandma a lot lately and have decided that she's basically a super hero - which is why we call her Supergrams.
She brought up 7 sweeeet kids, my mother included, and is now a very committed gramma to over 40 people.
She's survived a lot of major health problems - she's basically a medical miracle.
And what makes me respect her the most is that she's been hurt a lot and lived through so much pain and hasn't become bitter or hateful... she is a woman of grace.
She's one of the strongest people I know and I look up to her so much.
My Supergrams is definetly one of my greatest heroes. <3

i've noticed that there's a severe lack of impending doom...

freedom feels like the brisk April breeze whipping through loose strands of hair, the deep bass of Hot Chip and the laughter of friends pulsing in the ear drums, the weight of a bag full of good marks bearing down on the shoulder and the relief of releasing a breath that's been held for almost eight months.

God is good.

oh french photographer, do you know what you've begun?

sometimes when i try to peer into that mysterious and misty realm of the future, i see the road diverge into two very different paths.
the one is the simple, safe and expected path.
the other is the more difficult path that leads me away from most of the things i'm familiar with.

i imagine myself as happy on both of those paths - happy in two very different senses of the word.

i see different people on the two paths.
but i see God on both of them.

i wonder which one He'll put me on.

Miss World

Why do you say those things?
Why do you want to be percieved that way?
Why do you have to dress so dang cheap?
Why don't you respect yourself?
Why don't you respect others?

And why don't you understand when I try to show you/tell you to do otherwise?

I don't get it. I don't like it.

But I love you anyways.

uhm. YES!

Ok so... as you may or may not know, two of my favourite things are Fleet Foxes and Awesometown. These, of course, are two very different things, so you can imagine my shock when I discovered that the two had met. The result of this meeting is this epic lovefest of a video, featuring Jorma (who just so happens to be my favourite of the Awesometown bunch) and Fleet Foxes (who just so happen to be playing my favourite song, Blue Ridge Mountains).

Thanks God.

2 At dawn he appeared again in the temple courts, where all the people gathered around him, and he sat down to teach them. 3 The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group 4 and said to Jesus, "Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. 5 In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?" 6 They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him.
But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. 7 When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, "Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her." 8 Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground.
9 At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. 10 Jesus straightened up and asked her, "Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?"
11 "No one, sir," she said.
"Then neither do I condemn you," Jesus declared. "Go now and leave your life of sin."

John 8: 2-11

My Bible tells me that most early manuscripts and acient witnesses don't include this passage. I'm really, really, really thankful that God decided to include it.
